Reintroducing the New and Improved Blackberry Devices

By: Fast Lane Wireless

RIM unveiled the Bold 9650 and Pearl 3G with revamped specifications, as an effort to defend its marketing position against competitors such as Apple’s iPhone.  The smartphones support voice and data simultaneously, so users are able to surf the web and take a call at the same time.  Both devices feature a QWERTY keyboard, optical trackpad, 3.2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi with high-speed internet and Bluetooth connectivity.

According to RIM’s co-chief executive, Jim Balsillie, “We think what this does is it really rounds out the family of products, though we are far from done this year with new products.”  Though, RIM continues to face increasing competition with leading companies such as Apple and Google.  The demand for business-focused Blackberry handsets is shifting toward other devices that offer a better Internet browsing experience.

Due to this set-back, the company has teamed up with Torch Mobile to improve its internet experience.  Torch Mobile’s Iris browser offers a “touch screen and ‘mouse cursor’ controls with zoom, tap, and scroll functionality — similar to Apple’s iPhone browser.”

RIM is expected to announce the revamped Blackberry devices and browser at the annual Wireless Enterprise Symposium event.  The Bold 9650 will be available in May from Sprint and Verizon; the Pearl 3G will be released in Canada on Bell, Telus and Rogers.
