Nokia to Integrate Apps in Your Car

By: Fast Lane Wireless

Nokia is the talks with Consumer Electronics for Automotive (CE4A) to develop a mode to integrate your phone with your in-car entertainment.  Once adopted, the standard will let users utilize the applications on the car’s in-car display—navigation, weather widgets, or apps that can read your texts aloud.  Nokia have also partnered with Alpine Electronics, Continental, Fiat, Harman Becker, Valmet Automotive, and Magneti Marelli regarding the mobile integration with in-car systems.

An example of the in-car mobile integration is BMW’s ConnectedDrive system that hooks up your BlackBerry phone with the in-car display.  The application syncs to your address book and allows you to make calls through speaker phone, and it will soon have text and e-mail capabilities.  ConnectedDrive allows notifications to be sent to the car’s display and the system can read your messages aloud.
